Grand 2 Grand Ultra Marathon
Grand 2 Grand Ultra Marathon 2017
By Colin Geddes
The Grand2Grand Ultra 2017 will take place from September 24 to 30. This is the sixth edition of the 170-mile footrace, which starts at a remote location on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and ends at over 8,500 feet on the summit of the Grand Staircase.
The race is unique in America as it is entirely self-supported, meaning that competitors have to carry all of their food, sleeping bag and other essential supplies for the week long, six stage event. Organizers provide water at checkpoints and a tent at a roving camp each night in the desert. This year it is expected to be a sellout of 170 competitors taking part from more than 25 countries. Only a few spots remain available to enter the race this year!
Spectators will have the opportunity to cheer on the tough competitors at the halfway point, as they pass through the beautiful Best Friends Animal Sanctuary on Tuesday afternoon, September 26.
This race is considered to be one of the toughest footraces on the planet and attracts amazing endurance athletes from around the world.
