Grand 2 Grand Ultra Marathon
Grand 2 Grand Ultra Marathon 2019
By Colin Geddes
The Grand to Grand Ultra 2019 will take place from September 22-28, 2019. This is the eighth edition of the 170-mile footrace, which starts at a remote location on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and ends at an altitude of over 8,500 feet on the summit of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
The race is unique in America as it is entirely self-supported, meaning competitors must carry all of their food, sleeping bag and other essential supplies for the week-long event which takes place over six stages. Organizers provide water at checkpoints and a tent at a roving camp each night in the desert.
This year over 150 competitors are expected to take part from more than 25 countries. At the time of writing, only a few spots remain available and you will have to be quick if you still want to enter the 2019 race!
Spectators will also be able to see and cheer on the competitors at approximately the halfway point, as they pass through Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
This race is considered to be one of the toughest footraces on the planet and attracts both elite and amateur endurance athletes from around the world.
