Kanab Writers Conference
Kanab Writers Conference is Unique
The seventh annual Kanab Writers Conference will be held at the new Kanab Center October 11-13, 2018.
The Kanab’s Writers Conference is unique for several reasons.
The first is the setting. Attendees come back year after year to enjoy the creative boost of the red rock surroundings.
The second reason is the Thursday evening keynote presentation. It’s a community gathering, free to the public. This year the Thursday evening speaker is Dr. Ron Shook. His subject is “Heroic Cars and Heroic Drivers: The Saga of the Bonneville Salt Flats.”
Afterwards, everyone is invited to enjoy refreshments as they browse the conference bookstore, where presenters’ and attendees’ books are for sale.
The third unique feature of Kanab Writers Conference is the plein air writing experience Friday morning. Attendees hike through a colorful landscape – perhaps seeing dinosaur tracks or petroglyphs. After a short discussion, everyone finds a place to perch where they can write undisturbed.
The morning’s writing will then be used for the hands-on self-publishing workshops on Friday afternoon. Finished projects will be combined in an anthology to be published and sold on Amazon.
The “regular” part of the Writers Conference begins Friday evening with supper and a get-acquainted hour, followed by two breakout sessions of four workshops each. Classes cover craft basics, genre, marketing, editing, audiobooks, children’s books, the business of writing, and much more. Presenters are all successful writers.
The conference continues Saturday with a keynote by USA best-selling author Elana Johnson, who is both an indie and traditional published writer. Four more breakout sessions and a publisher panel complete the day.
